5 Tips to drive productivity

Being productive is hard at the best of times, this has only just been amplified thanks to the challenges of COVID19.

Reflecting on yourself, how many days have you gotten to the end of and wondered what you've actually achieved? Or where all the time has gone but your to do list has diminished?

I've learnt the hard way that you need to be strict with your time. We need a level of structure to our day to drive productivity, as well as, to help boost mood. No matter who you are or what your job is, you need to manage your time.

Below are 5 tips I've found have helped me drive my productivity and work smarter.

1. Stop multitasking

Focus on one task at a time, this will help you focus better and complete things faster.

2. Take breaks

Working long hours does not mean you're getting more done, typically it's the opposite. Studies tell us that regular breaks helps to boost your concentration and mood. It's all about working smarter not harder. Make sure to take a break to help you work smarter.

3. Set small goals

Imagine thinking about all the things to do in your week, this might see a bit overwhelming. Instead breakdown your days into small bite size tasks. This brings a sense of control to your days and helps to keep you on track.

4. Prioritize your day

Recognize how and when you work best, and then use that to your benefit. Are you a morning person vs afternoon? There's no set 'best practice' that works for everyone. Take on your biggest tasks whilst you are at your peak, most alert and the brain is firing.

5. Implement the “two-minute rule”

Rule of thumb, if you have a task you can complete in 2 or less minutes, do it on the spot. This helps to builds good habits and progresses you forward, versus continuously wasting time delaying tasks.

No one is perfect, you'll have those days where you just need a break. My suggestion is take it, but be sure to get back on the horse the next day! Once you get into the rhythm you'll start to see the results and this will continue to motivate you forward.
