6 Things you should not wear in office

Do you think appearance doesn’t count in the workplace? Think again.

Whilst appearance is important, it's obviously not everything. The quality of work is certainly one of the key aspects to a job and largely counts towards you keeping it. Appearance leaves an immediate impression on people. Think of it this way, you want to get noticed at work for your performance rather than your appearance.

Below is a list of 6 things you really should not wear in office to improve your own brand.

1 Don't wear dirty or wrinkled clothes

If you look unkempt your colleagues may see you as someone who is careless and doesn't pay much attention to detail.

2 Don't wear tight or revealing clothing

Plunging necklines, unbuttoned shirts, midriff-revealing tops, sheer fabrics and mini skirts don't belong in office. Just think how it may make others feel (e.g. awkward) or how they perceive you. Typically if someone is wearing revealing clothes others are less likely to respect their professionalism.

3 Don't wear work clothing that is too casual

Personally I find casual clothes tiresome, for me suits is much easier as there's less to decide on. When you think about casual attire in the office you have to consider where the lines are - how casual is too casual? Ripped clothing, flip-flops, boardshorts, singlets, mini sports shorts are examples of big no no's,

4 Don't wear T-shirts with offensive messages

Shirts with graphics or text that may have a chance of insulting or offending people is not appropriate for the office. For some companies this can be considered harassment or an offence at work.

5 Don't wear clubbing clothes

If you look like you've just walked in from a club or a night out, perhaps think again. You do not want to look like you never made it home.

6 Don't wear too much fragrance

Everybody likes to smell nice, but no one should be able to smell you coming before they can see you. Also don't forget some people may have sensitivities or allergies to fragrances.
