Cappello Pizzeria Review

Amazing Balmain, by ferry, hidden Italian gem.

Just a short walk up hill (or bus ride) from Balmain ferry station, Pizzeria is a hidden gem that any pizza lover should visit.

Based in a beautiful old building and the interior provides for a warm, rustic atmosphere perfect for any occasion. They have attained a modern chic design without utilizing a single pizza-house cliche that we're so used to seeing in many Italian restaurants.

The staff are friendly and very responsive. They are probably the only real reminder that this establishment is a pizzeria as you can hear the faint chatter in Italian coming out of the kitchen.

The restaurant offers a delicious menu which you could easily want to eat your way through, one dish at a time. Being only 2 people, we decided to pick a variety of dishes:

Starters:

Mussels in a chili & wine sauce

Fig wrapped in prosciutto on a bed of rocket with parmesan

buffalo mozzarella

Mains:

4 Stagioni pizza

Sides:

Buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and basil, with a drizzling of balsamic and olive oil

The mussels were outstanding and I would definitely recommend. I am a big fan of cheese in general so the mozzarella was a total treat as expected. Whilst the figs were lovely, I probably wouldn't order them again.

Consistently rated in Sydney's best Pizza's list of places to go, I can certainly vouch for this! Their traditional wood fired style are beautifully thin and crispy but includes a luxurious layer of high quality condiments and super-stretchy mozzarella.

Occasions I would recommend this venue for:

  • Special occasions with your partner e.g. birthday, romance or an anniversary

  • Gatherings with family or friends
