Based on Sydney's most insanely Insta-famous café The Grounds of Alexandria, you know before even entering this sister venue it is going to an experience. Not to disappoint, you'll step into a 1920s dining experience so elaborate and completely over-the-top that you'll be searching for the famous Mr. Gatsby sitting at one of the booths. Your eyes will be entertained as the drift and try take in everything around the room.

With such a unique venue, things do get very busy. If you dare to try turn up without a booking be prepared to wait in line with all the other diehards. The staff operate like a well oiled steam train and have no trouble keeping up with the high demand. Once seated they are very attentive and ensure you'll have your coffee and food in no time.

Looking at the menu there is wide range of scrumptious brunching options to pick from. Channeling our healthy selves we opted to both go for the Mediterranean Bowl. It is a solid winning choice, packed with the favourites like haloumi, pumpkin, zucchini, eggplant, cauliflower and chickpeas with a perfectly cooked poached egg on top. To complete our city brunch we also ordered coffees. A good coffee is an absolutely essential for a corporate warrior, it's what keeps us ticking and alive. I am happy to report The Grounds of the City didn't disappoint. Turns out there's a dedicated barista's bar with a coffee sommelier!

Occasions I would recommend this venue for:

  • First dates

  • Brunch / lunch catch ups

  • Business meetings
